Dear Historic Saint Paul Community, We are writing with an update about weekend Mass and our safety modifications in response to COVID-19. We know that many of you have received the vaccination and that Mass attendance is picking up. Our parish medical advisory team and the diocese have given their opinion and directives as Fr. Richard communicated in the last few weeks via Constant Contact, bulletin and social media. We will continue to maintain our protocols of social distancing and mask wearing to ensure the safety of attendees. We appreciate your patience and vigilance as we work to prevent the spread of the virus. We are in need of help, though. Anyone who is willing to serve as hospitality ministers for the Saturday 4 PM Mass or the Sunday 10 AM Mass or the special 8am Mass on Easter morning is asked to contact Bill Stoops at William.Stoops@uky,edu. If you are interested in helping schedule hospitality ministers for either Mass, please let us know. Again, you can contact Bill at William.Stoops@uky.edu. Sincerely, Hunter Porter and Bill Stoops
We stand with and pray for those who are targets of racial hatred, especially our Asian siblings who grieve those lost to violence, and who fear violence directed at them. Gracious God, move the hearts of our world to love in order to end hatred and discrimination, and give peace and security to our suffering Asian family. We pray in Jesus' name.
Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv. welcomed the election of Sister Kathy Curtis as the new prioress of the Mt. Tabor Benedictines, a monastic, ecumenical community of contemplative women based in Martin, Ky. The sisters held a prioress election in early March, and Sister Kathy will be installed for her four-year term on June 7. The first non-Catholic to make final monastic profession in the community, she succeeds Sister Eileen Schepers. “I send my congratulations and support to Sister Kathy,” said Bishop Stowe. “I am also grateful for Sister Eileen’s ministry to the sisters and for making Mt. Tabor a place of prayer and hospitality with such an effect on our local church.” The Mt. Tabor Benedictines foster a peaceful and prayerful environment and foster interfaith dialogue in their community. They seek to be inclusive in their prayer life and respectful toward all people’s beliefs. For more information, visit: www.mtabor.com
"As Holy Week and Easter approach, it is important that we maintain all of our COVID-19 prevention protocols in place. Even as the numbers of the vaccinated increase, it is only about 25 percent of Kentuckians who are fully vaccinated. Variants of the virus pose a new threat as well. "I know that everyone is weary of social distancing and masks, but it is not the time to become lax with precautions as there is an end more clearly in sight. We are still limited to a maximum of 60 percent of capacity in churches as long as the 6-foot distancing requirements can be met. I encourage parishes to continue to make liturgies available through livestream and provide extra liturgies for Easter if feasible and if attendance is expected to surpass what is permitted. "Please continue to encourage people to get vaccinated and to be patient with the process for signing up for the vaccine. It is only with a greater percentage of the population vaccinated that we will be able to resume the social gatherings that we long to have. "Thanks for the continued efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy."
