As we approach the holiday season, the season of giving, we wanted to share some ways that you can give to our Historic St. Paul's Parish.
If you are at least 70 1/2 years of age, you can donate from your IRA up to $105,000. You won't have to pay tax on the distribution (which is fully taxable if you have it deposited in your account) and both you and the church benefit. Tell your advisor you want to make a charitable contribution to St. Paul. Have them send the amount you request directly to the church. If you are in your RMD stage (Required minimum distribution per the IRS) you can satisfy that up to the $105,000 limit.
If you have appreciated stock in a taxable brokerage account, you might consider donating shares of stock. The process in this case is to tell your advisor the amount you want to donate and to maximize your tax benefit. That eliminates you having to pay capital gains tax on the appreciated value and counts as a charitable contribution. Check with your CPA/ Accountant as there may be more benefits to you in both cases. The stock transfer instructions to process this is below:
