MESSAGE OF THE WEEK JUNE 1-7, 2024

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

“We will do everything the LORD has told us.”

This was he covenant promise the Israelites made to seal their relationship with God. Moses ritualized this promise by ceremoniously sprinkling the people with the blood taken from their most valued animals as they promised to listen to, and to follow, God’s plan for them.

Promises are easy to make but often difficult to keep.

Today’s Feast-The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)- reminds us once again of God’s tremendous love for each of us. God promised to send a Savior who would shed his blood that we might share in a new covenant steeped in mercy and love. Do we really believe this? Accepting this ultimate gift of Christ’s selflessness is the core of our Christianity. So, what are we really experiencing each time we gather around the Table of the Eucharist? Has attending mass become just another activity we cross off our weekly “to do” list?

Each time we gather to offer prayers of thanksgiving for this ultimate gift Jesus has given us, let us recommit our promise to strengthen the Body of Christ through actions of mercy and love: Let us promise to never use language that dehumanizes anyone as we strive to break down those cultural, racial, and political forces that separate us from one another, and from our God.

Trusting in the God who loves us all, let us begin each day with the promise to do everything our God has told us.
