Trusting in the incredible love of God for us even in the most difficult and challenging times, the Church continuously offers Mass for the intentions of the People of God and the world. The Eucharist remains the "source and summit (1) of our life as Catholic Christians. At times, when we cannot physically receive the Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion, we are taught that we can make a Spiritual Communion. St. Thomas Aquinas described Spiritual Communion as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament and lovingly embrace him” at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in sacramental Communion. Together we will offer worship and prayer virtually until such a time when we are allowed to physically gather again. To that end, our Communication Ministry will be recording the Sunday Mass and it will be posted on our parish Facebook page with a live feed of the Facebook page on our parish website (2) by 4pm each Saturday, beginning this Saturday, 21 March.
I urge you to continue to read the parish bulletin (3) and to continue supporting our parish as your means allow by making your offering online (4) or by mailing your offering to our parish office, 501 West Short Street, Lexington, KY, 40507.
Our parish Day of Reconciliation scheduled for 26 March is necessarily canceled. I will make individual confession available by appointment to anyone who requests it. To schedule a time, please call me at 859.420.4182.
Finally, let us stay close to our Immaculate Mother who holds us ever so lovingly and keeps us in the Heart of her Son. Pray the Rosary daily, offer prayer every morning and evening, and check on those who are vulnerable. During these dark days, a phone call, note, email, or text can be a welcome source of grace for someone.
You are in my prayers every day. Stay safe and let us follow the directive of our Federal and State government in order to keep the vulnerable among us as healthy as possible as we try to contain the virus as best as we can.
