Appalachian Immersion Pilgrimages meet at and use a location in Eastern Kentucky as a “home base.” Registration cost for the October events is $350, $250 for August. The cost includes lodging, meals and transportation after arrival. Pilgrims will meet people of Appalachia who will tell of their lived experience in the mountains as they face the consequences of climate change. The pilgrimage will include time for reflection and discussion.
The Appalachian Immersion Experience (AIP) is about “receiving” wisdom not taking, possessing, controlling or manipulating the experience. At the end of the experience, you will examine...
The gift “received” from the experience; what new questions have emerged;
The next steps;
How and why the experience is important for the diocese;
How the participant will stay connected to caring for creation.
The AIP is designed to ignite desire and confront complacency and inertia concerning deafness toward the cry of the earth as it relates to the cry of the poor. The Laudato Si' Commission and the diocesan office of Peace and Justice have created an experience for people who are interested in the Gospel call to peace and justice and Pope Francis’ proclamation to care for all of creation.
