I am writing to you today to provide an update on the Laudato Si' Committee and our action plan for Historic Saint Paul Parish.
As you know, Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si' calls on all Catholics to care for our common home. In response, our parish has formed a committee to develop an action plan that will help us to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainability.
We have been working hard over the past few months to gather information and develop a plan that is specific to the needs of our parish. Our plan includes a number of initiatives, such as:
Reducing waste:
Using ceramic mugs during Coffee and Donuts
Eliminating Styrofoam from our gatherings
Reducing energy use:
Conducting an energy audit
Exploring Solar energy
Increasing outreach to the poor:
Creating an emergency fund for those in need
Continuing the sleeping bag initiative
Encouraging education on sustainable lifestyles and ecological spirituality.
These are just some examples, we encourage you to read the plan in its entirety, as well as the guidelines provided by the Diocese. We are excited to begin implementing our plan and we believe that it will make a real difference in our community. We encourage all parishioners to get involved in our efforts, and we thank you for your help in carrying out the vision of Pope Francis and Laudato Si'.
Please take some time to read our action plan and let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Dcn. Steve Hester Laudato Si' Action Team
