The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement of instruction to the faithful on how to combat the sin of institutional racism and pray for healing in our world. The statement reads, in part, that "for a nation to be just, it must be a society that recognizes and respects the legitimate rights of individuals and peoples."

In response to the recent killings of unarmed African Americans, Pope Francis stated: “My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. At the same time, we have to recognize that ‘the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating.
